translation chineseCHINESE, translation in chinese

also called Mandarin in the West, Zhongwen for written Chinese, or Puntonghua, Hanyu, Guoyu or Zhonguohua for spoken Chinese, is the most spoken language in the world (spoken by nearly 900 million people) ahead of English (450 million). The written language comprises tens of thousands of characters (at least 56,000 have been counted) of which over 3,000 are used on a regular basis

Since 1954, China has been simplifying how these characters are written to make the writing system easier to use. However, older characters, called "traditional" (as opposed to the "simplified" ones used officially in China today), are still used in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

also called Nihongo, is the 10th most spoken language in the world, spoken by approximately 122 million people, just ahead of French (120 million). This language uses three alphabets: hiragana (simple, rounded characters - 46 syllabaries), katakana (simple, angular characters - 46 syllabaries) and kanji which are in fact Chinese characters. Japanese uses much fewer kanji characters than does Chinese: there are 1,945 official kanji, called the jôyô kanji.

is the 15th most spoken language in the world with 72 million speakers, ahead of Italian (63 million). At one time Korean used Chinese characters (called hanja); however these are now mostly reserved for literary Korean. In 1446, an alphabet (called Hunmin jeong-eum) was created using the science of phonology and phonetics, and in 1912 it was reviewed and renamed Hangul or Hangeul.

Hanguel is an alphabet comprised of 24 radicals (jamo), 10 vowels, and 14 consonants, that when put together make phonetic syllables.
